XEON: A Sneak Peek of Issue 01

Ahoy, joy boys! PHN here with yet another XEON update. First, a bit of news: I couldn't convince them to change the name to PHeoN, because it apparently didn't test well in focus groups, and "didn't make any goddamn sense." Peh, genius is never recognized in it's own time, as history has shown.

Another idea of mine that was rejected.
Philistines!

But regardless of corporate politics, I'm here today to share with you a special sneak peek at XEON #1. The video is me coloring over Cedric Nocon's art of a scene in the book. A helicopter crashes, a man awakens, and is very, berry wet. But why is he outside without an umbrella? Why is his face glowing?  Could the two be related? Find out, in XEON #1!

XEON: The Trial of Trailers

I refuse to pay for this trailer...
they didn't put in the "star wipe" transitions like I asked.

If I could choose only one site, it would be this site. But if I could choose two, the other would definitely be www.cedricnocon.com. But since we don't have to choose, we can have both! Welcome back, PHNdamaniacs, to another star studded update to The SITE! And by stars, I mean myself (and my personal secretary, Less Hubris), Cedric Nocon, and new comer to the scene: Casey Sabol! Senór Casey did a great job with the music for the trailer (we asked him to remix us a special cut to use, which he knocked out of the park!), and the studio did a great job with the video/animation. So, now you might be asking, "What is Xeon?" Well, it's not a movie, despite what the trailer might lead you to believe. No, comics and movement seldomly go well together...

We all know what happened last time
comics and movement met up...

No, Xeon is the mastermind of Cedric Nocon (the one and only!), detailing the chronicles of a journey of an adventure that a young man must embark upon to uncover his destiny and future. Enso (the protaganist) wakes up to danger, and responds the best way he knows how: by punching people in the face. Okay, so maybe I'm not the best person to explain these things. All I do is put the color on the book and argue with Cedric about sci-fi nerd things, like seismic distortions and "Hulk would totally mess up The Thing in a fight, I can cite issue numbers where it happens!" But in all seriousness, check out the video, and if you can start saving up $2.99 from now until this summer, you should consider buying a copy. Next week, I'm hoping to have up a special preview of the first page of issue 1, so come on back and check it out! This is PHN, signing off!

The Saturday Afternoon Post: Terror In Asukanistan!

Where were you, the day that music died?

What's going on, PHNdamentalists? Today, another guest spot, by that underclassman from overseas, Azuma Takeshi! It's one of the penultimate pages from his magnum opus, Re-Take! Well, that's not entirely fair, he is working dilligently on his manga, currently being serialized nowhere here in the continental United States. It's kind of like that elementary school who put up a memorial plaque in my honor: it was a nice gesture, but I wasn't thrilled about them estimating the time of my death.

It was a beautiful ceremony.

So what's going on here? Basically, Shinji went over to Germany and saved Asuka from the Nazi menace, ever vigilant in trying to clone Hitler to bring about the end of Tokyo-3! He gives Asuka the Ring of Power, the item she needs to muster the courage within to fight the Giant Stalindroid. But little does she know, the magic was never in the ring, rather, it was in her all along. All she needed to do was believe in herself....

...ok, that's not nearly what happens. But that's why I'm not writing books any time soon, now is it? But to make a long winded post short, here's the video. I know I usually make you wait till Tuesday for these, but since you guys have been waiting long enough for an update, I'll give this to you this one time for free. Don't tell no mandy!

A Barely Wednesday Post, Creating the New Animated Intro

Hey Blogbrethren! PHN here, with an impromptu posting just to remind everyone that, despite the rumors going around, I have not died of Malaria contracted after being bitten by a Spaniard. It was, however, a close call and I'd like to thank everyone for their prayers and their donations. I'm saying I'd "like to" because none of you donated a goddamn thing.

I was in real danger, and none of you cared.

Now, for today, I'd like to share a special little featurette: the creation of the animated bumper card for generation 3 of the coloring vidjas. This is a tale mostly told through picture, video, and some text. So, in other words, it's not really that different from any other post. But anyway, here's step one: Draw lots of pictures.

Step 1 is the biggest step. To sum up the rest of the steps, I've prepared for you a special film.

A couple of things about the intro itself. The opening scrawl uses the same sound effect from old Capcom games on the Super Nintendo, and the flaming wipe-out effect where my name fades is the same sound effect as when The Predator's vision mode changes. The rest of the sound effects, like the "dings" and the "booms" are all from various Capcom arcade games, notably Marvel vs. Capcom and Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter (what can I say, I'm a Capcom junkie). So there you have it. Sorry about the sporadic updates as of late, but you know, in this economy, I've got to spend more time earning money than I can spending it with you guys, the fans. But never fret, PHN hasn't forgotten about you, and your ravenous appetite for new stuff. So keep it locked into The SITE for much further ados! This is PHN, signing out!

YOUTUBE TUESDAYS! Asuka Re-Takes

WELCO-WELCOME TO THE ADVENTURE!

Hey there, PHN-o-holics! It's the best Tuesday ever, because it's YOUTUBE Tuesday! Remember what Tuesdays were before Youtube Tuesday? I do, and trust me, you don't want to go back to those dark days. You'll notice a few things about this video: The little interrupt sequence uses SFX from my favorite announcer from a Capcom game (Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter), and the more contemporary music choice. Now, I know what you're thinking: Pete, are you going pop on us? No! Last week was an experiment in abject horror, and the more soulful, jazzy mix today is to indicate that these aren't my pencils. When it's 100% PHN, it's 100% wacky music and fun. When it's some odd fraction, well, the music needs to reflect that.  In theory.

Many things work in theory.

The music in this case is "A Fine Frenzy," a very talented lady who sings vurry purrty music. I hope you enjoy it, and give her music a listen if you like it. It can't all be the top 10 /w Ryan Seacrest or 80s all the time. Sometimes you need to slow it down with something different, something fresh. But enough of that. Take a gander, have a listen, and keep it easy. This is PHN, signing out!
