Youtube Tuesdays! Asuka and EVA02

Y-y-y-y-oooutube Tuesday! Here we are again, with another Tues-TACULAR update! First off, you'll notice the new intro to the flicks. I'm calling this generation 3 of videos, with a new intro, outro, re-formatting of text during the video itself, and of course. WIIIIIIIIDESCREEN. Although, within minutes, Youtube nailed me with a 3rd party content match (Gotta figure out a way around that for next time). But for this one, I'll cut it short, and let the vidja do the talking. Excelsior!

A Case of the Mondays

Photogramaphy!

Hey there, SITE-izens, PHN here with the Monday update. As an artist, you can write off almost anything on your taxes to be related to your job: cell phone, computer stuff, toys...all of that can be attributed to work product. As such, you get pretty used to just getting neat stuff under the guise of using it for work. Today, I'd like to share with you something that I got exclusively for work, despite it being designed entirely for gaming. The Logitech G-13 Macro Gamepad: featuring 22 buttons on the face, 2 on the edge, and a 5 way stick that effectively means more buttons, and 4 macro modes quadrupling that number. Used in conjunction with my tablet, I've basically eliminated fiddling around with they keyboard and sped up productivity about 20-30%. It might not be a huge number, but it's a small price to pay to look like you're from the future. Plus, everyone has a tablet. How many people can brag about having a macropad? Ey? Ey/ So nerdy, but so much fun.

There's undoubtedly an adjustment period, but the beauty of the G-13 is that it is program contextual. Meaning, every program that you set to the G-13 can have an exclusive set of macros that doesn't cross over from program to program, unless you want it to. For example, I can set a different set of macros for Photoshop, and have those same keys do something completely different in After Effects or......well, that's pretty much all I use. But if I wanted to use Corel Painter, it would work there too. Or games, if I felt so inclined. This concludes this unpaid (but should be paid) advertisement for a product use far outside of it's originally intended use. This is PHN, reminding you that Joe's Crab Shack will only give you the biggest crabs, and to have it Your Way, and be Lovin' It, signing off!

Sunday Afternoon - The Asuka and Eva Story

Thumbnail image
It's Party Time! Excellent!

Good morrow, ye scalawags! PHN here with the Sunday update. It's Asuka, colored to the extreme. I think I got the depth correct on this one, but the perspective is any mans guess. I guess it's just something I'm going to have to keep drilling myself until I can get it perfectly.

Perspective is everyone's responsibility.

Purple/red and yellow/orange is a scheme I haven't tried yet, and I think it came out pretty good. Asuka is as blonde as ever (I've been getting flack on some message boards because I never do red haired Asuka), with EVA-02 throwing a tantrum in the pool. I......don't know if there are coniferous pine trees at the base of NERV headquarters, but it's probably best not to think about it. Now that I think about it, there shouldn't be clouds either...Hm...I think I dropped the ball on this one. My fanboy ATD (attention to detail) has finally kicked in. This is PHN, proving once again if you overthink pointless nerd trivia, you ruin everything for everyone, signing off!

Fanart Friday, Asuka + EVA

Thumbnail image

My primary inspiration for this is that it's so damn hot and I wish I had a Slip'n Slide
running through the middle of my studio.

What's this? Friday? Fanart Friday? Yes it is! If you'll indulge me and go back to October 5, 2007, I posted my first pic on The BLOG. The first Fanart Friday. And to christen The SITE, here she is again on the scene! Tried to go with another forced perspective shot, I don't know if I was entirely successful with it, but I'd rather try something and make mistakes, then just stagnate with doing the same old jerk shots again and again. The water on this one was a lot of fun to do, the trees not so much. I've never been a big fan of drawing or coloring trees. Mountains are ok. So is doing the sun in the corner with happy faces and straight (or wavy) lines for rays. And birds shaped like M's. Drawing is fun.

...and now, something completely different.

Anyone who follows my work knows that I'm a huge fanboy for Y. Sadamoto's artwork. He likes his girls a little skinnier than I like mine (I like mine with some grip to them hips, WHO-WA). Anyone who follows my work and also loves Sadamoto might recgonize a similar picture. Mine is a bit of a remix, an homage, if you will. Same sorta setup, but different elements.

One day, Y.S, I'll catch up to you. And eat your heart.
And gain your courage.

But here we are, two years after The BLOG. We've certainly come a long way, haven't we? To all the fans out there, thanks for sticking with me this far. Here's to another 2 years of irrelevance! Excelsior!

Cleo, Character Design

Thumbnail image

Yes, THAT Cleopatra. Except in the future. And wearing a miniskirt.

Hey party boys, it's PHN here with another update. Today, it's the minx from the Sphinx, Cleopatra. Once again, from the long dead halls of Clone High, I've dragged out a corpse and made it parade around for my own amusement. Still haven't seen it? Shame on you! Watch it here. Anyway, back to brass tacks. With Cleo here, her design was more straight forward: sex pot. Although I didn't want to OVER sexualize her, I still had to sexualize her somewhat. But a character like this is really one-dimensional, and not very fun to bring out (well, it is fun to draw her, but for completely different reasons. Well, maybe not so different). It's easy to bring out the sultry/sexiness of a character by just slapping them in micro skirts and low cut halter-tops, but I also wanted to point out how manipulative/cunning she is. Something like that can only be brought out in the face/expressions, which would make Cleo actually a more interesting character to draw than Joan in a lot of ways. If you go out and watch the original Clone High, you'll see that mine looks almost nothing like her.

Artistic License, or inability to follow directions? You be the judge.

That's going to be it for today. Enjoy the new art, and have a good weekend! This is PHN, promoting awareness for children who not only can't follow directions, but have behavior problems and need to have their parents come in for a conference. You also need to have your homework signed off every night.
